Teachers

This level is intended to give your students an introduction to dams, cracking, engineering, and simulation. It touches on topics like shapes, places, forces, and sizes. Dammy the Beaver appears on each page to show the children what to do, but younger children may need help with the reading. Generally, second to fourth graders should be able to read everything okay.

Testing with a couple groups of children showed that attention spans lasted about the length of the Dams section. So I would suggest you use the site in three parts: Dams, then Cracks, then Examples and Simulation. For each of these parts, there is a worksheet for students to use as they move through the section:

Dams worksheet
Cracks worksheet
Examples and Simulation worksheet
The worksheets should print from your browser window reasonably. At the end of Dams and at the end of Cracks, there are also short, interactive quizzes for the students.

Also check out the Site Index, linked from the side menu, for links to things like Dam Entertainment and Cracking the News.
