First, select a level from the main page:
Beginning if you're in grades 2-4 or if you want a simple look at cracks and dams;
this level is also for Kindergarten and 1st graders, but they'll need help with the reading.
Intermediate if you're in grades 5-8
Advanced if you're in grades 9-12
Once inside a level, you can always return to the main Cracking Dams page by
clicking on the Cracking Dams image at the
top of the page. Clicking on the SimScience logo
at the bottom of any page will return you to the main SimScience
page.
There are several ways to move around inside a level.
First, there is a side menu at the left-hand side
of every page; clicking on any of these choices will take you to a main topic
within your level (Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced).
Second, there
are forward and back buttons at the bottom
of each page. These buttons will take you to the pages before and after your
current page in their sequence. If you hold the cursor over a button,
a tag will pop up to tell you where the button will take you. And
remember, if you're jumping around, the back button may not take you to the
page you were previously on.
Third, one of the choices in the menu
is a Site Index. Clicking on this choice
will take you to a main index. From there you can move to an index of your level.
That will list all the pages on your level and you can move to
another page by clinking on one of the links there.
You can also do a Webquest using Cracking Dams.
What's a Webquest? Follow the link to find out!
External links will be followed by
(#). All links
to image and other references are external.
Glossary words will be followed by
(*). To see the glossary definition of the word, click on
it and another window will open up with the definition.

There are two types of movies on this site: animations and Quicktime movies.
You should press the play button to watch the movie.
Everyone should be able to watch the animations with no trouble. Quicktime movies
require the Quicktime plug-in (#), which you can get for
free. Usually if you don't have this plug-in your browser will prompt you to go get it.

The Scenarios and Simulation will be best understood if
you have checked out the info on cracks and dams first.
|
Finally, you'll see the cee icon in various places throughout the site. Cee
stands for civil and environmental engineering. Sections of the site that
mention things that civil engineers do will be marked with the
cee icon. |
