Introduction

Welcome to the world of Fluid Flow!

In the field of fluid flow, research is done on the interaction between flows and bodies. The extent of topics is very broad, ranging from the movements of blood cells through capillaries to supersonic flight. These pages are aimed at giving you some examples and explanations on fluid flows.

The different links provide information on unit conversion, potential flows and sports aerodynamics. In the latter, the questions that are addressed are which characteristics of baseballs and golfballs, the spin of the ball during flight and the flow, have the most effect on the curve and distance of the path. In the low speed aerodynamics page, a calculation of pressure distribution over various airfoils is shown. Furthermore, there is an applet on sound propagation under both subsonic and supersonic conditions, and finally a visualization laboratory, with pictures and movies of interesting flow patterns, such as aircraft downwash and the collapse of a parachute.

In the glossary you can find the explanations of the various terms used in fluid dynamics.
