Surfaces are everywhere: the computer screen in front of you has a smooth surface; we walk on the surface of the earth; and people have even walked on the surface of the moon.

The top of a table is a flat surface. We say the surface of a football is curved. Other examples of curved surfaces are balloons, soap bubbles, and the cell which make up our bodies and all other living things. We will learn more about all of these things.
