Pencils Snap!

Snapping Noise Demonstration:

Listen carefully while you slowly bend a wood pencil until it breaks.

When we broke our pencils, we get a single, loud, abrupt sound which we call a snap. Sometimes there are a couple of tiny pops first, but mostly the pencil breaks suddenly, all at once.
