Fontana Dam

Fontana Dam is a gravity dam.

It is almost 20 houses high.

It is 15 houses wide at the bottom.

It holds back a lake of more than 3 billion bathtubs of water.

The dam is located in North Carolina, USA.

The dam has many purposes:

  • to control flooding
  • to create power
  • to help ships pass
  • to let people swim and boat on the lake.
The Fontana Dam cracked on the dry side.

The concrete started to grow from the heat and a chemical reaction.

This picture shows where the dam cracked.
